Katra: A National-level archery coach Kuldeep Vedwan has been sentenced to five years in jail by a Fast Track Court in Sonipat, Haryana, for sexually harassing a minor girl archer during Youth Championship trials in 2023.

The girl, who was training at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Stadium in Katra, had gone to Sonipat to take part in trials at a Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre and was later selected for the Asia Cup in Singapore.

According to the complaint, on April 7, the coach allegedly entered her hotel room early in the morning and behaved inappropriately, which left the girl frightened. Later, the coach allegedly apologised to her and requested her not to reveal the incident.

Kuldeep Vedwan, a resident of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, was working as a coach at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Stadium through his foundation.

The court found him guilty under the POCSO Act, fined him Rs 15,000, and he was taken into custody after the decision.
